The Office of Dental Health conducted a dental screening survey of residents at 22 random long-term care facilities starting in 2020 and ending the summer of 2022. Long-term care facilities provide different levels of care depending upon a person’s needs. The department inspects each home at least annually to ensure residents are receiving the proper care. Inspectors also investigate complaints at nursing homes as often as necessary to ensure residents’ health and safety.

Recent Regulatory Requirements for Minimum Nursing Staff

While federal requirements state that facilities must maintain “sufficient nursing staff to meet residents’ needs”, specific guidelines are not set and state regulations vary drastically. Consultation with infectious disease or infection control experts is recommended. Quarantine may be considered during this evaluation based on consultation with an infection control expert, especially in the event symptoms develop within 14 days after close contact with an infected person.

We do ask that all items be placed in a sealed envelope labeled with the board name or name of the individual if not located in a board. First aid and CPR training shall be taken from the American Red Cross or from another comparable source. Certification in first aid shall be renewed every three years and certification in CPR shall be renewed annually for each staff person assigned to and performing first aid and CPR responsibilities. The program director or designee shall be responsible for ensuring that first aid supplies recommended by the American Red Cross or other comparable source are readily available.
The adult day care program shall have a program director who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program. Either the program director or the program director's designee shall be present and in charge during all hours that participants are on the premises. The program director and any such designee shall be qualified by demonstrated competence, specialized background, education or experience to manage the day-to-day operation of an adult day care program.
